Sanctify

SanctifyTo consecrate and set apart as holy.

God used this word in its various forms 141 times in Scripture: 110 times to Israel in their Masoretic Text Old Testament; 6 times to Israel in their Koine Greek Old Testament (Matthew thru John); 2 times to the Body of Christ in the transition book of Acts; 13 times to the Body of Christ in the Gospel of Grace (Romans thru Philemon); and 10 times to Israel’s Little Flock in their tribulation books (Hebrews thru Revelation).

In the late 1400s, the Catholic Church (Christianity) re-defined this word to mean “to render holy or legitimate by religious sanction”.  This definition would also pertain to the Jews, or any other religion, but it is contrary to Scripture.
