Whose Soever

Whose Soever – singular as pertaining to the scope of authority of specific individuals in regard to another unknown individual.

The term only occurs 2 times in Scripture; both occurrences are contained in a single verse; specifically, to the apostles after the resurrection of Christ regarding their scope of individual authority to perform the specific kingdom business of forgiving sin.  Further, it only pertains to 10 of the 12 apostles; Judas had already committed suicide, Bartholomew was not yet included, and Thomas was absent … and it does not pertain following the death of the individuals to whom it was specifically given.  It is not valid or applicable in the Dispensation of Grace or the tribulation of Israel, but it will be valid in the ages to come. .

This is Catholicism’s misappropriated verse, ignorantly used to invoke the false doctrine of papal forgiveness.

John 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
