OpposeTo adversely interpose effort or objection; To contradict with an opposite point of view; To fight against, counter, or resist strongly; To be hostile or antagonistic against.

God used this word in its various forms 5 times in Scripture: Once to Israel in their Masoretic Text Old Testament; Once to the Body of Christ in the transition book of Acts; and 3 times to the Body of Christ in the Gospel of Grace (Romans thru Philemon).

Contextually, 4 of the 5 usages are “oppose thy self (or themselves)”, which is ‘Interposing a hostile or antagonistic objection that is contradictive of their historic and published position’.

The first usage is about Job claiming that God is acting contrary to what Job expects.

Three of the usages are about the Jews ‘contradicting themselves with their hostile objections’ to God’s Gospel of Grace presented by Paul.  Instead of believing God and repenting, they wrest Scripture, which results in them contradicting themselves.

The last of the 5 usages is a warning about people claiming scientific evidence in support of their ‘hostile or antagonistic objection’ to God’s Gospel of Grace.
