Jesus – The Greek form of the name Joshua.
The name Joshua means “Jehovah is my salvation”.
In Israel’s Masoretic Text Old Testament, Joshua was the leader of Israel under Moses, and succeeded Moses after he died. Moses was Israel’s king before Israel had the position of kings.
Like Moses, Joshua was like Israel’s king before Israel had kings. He was the champion of Israel, and at that time, their redeemer. A likeness, and example, of Israel’s promised redeemer, Jesus Christ.
Only three people in Scripture have ever concurrently held all three offices of Prophet, Priest, and King: Moses, David, and Jesus Christ.
