Envy – The malign feeling toward someone who possesses an object or quality that you greatly desire.
God used this word in its various forms 40 times in Scripture: 21 times to Israel in the Masoretic Text Old Testament; Twice to Israel in their Koine Greek Old Testament (Matthew thru John); Once to Israel in the transition book of Acts; Twice to the Body of Christ in the transition book of Acts; 10 times to the Body of Christ in the Gospel of Grace (Romans thru Philemon); and 4 times to Israel in their tribulation books (Hebrews thru Revelation).
Envy is always prompted by covetousness, and usually results in slander or violence.
