Confound – To destroy utterly; to cause utter confusion and disorder.
Confounded is the past participle of confound. In the 1800s religion redefined the word confused to mean “the past participle of confound” … it is a lie. God used confuse and confound independently. Each word has a distinct meaning: they are not interchangeable.
God used confound 4 times, and the past-participle confounded 51 times; the text determines the sense of the word: 50 times to Israel in the Masoretic Text Old Testament with almost equal division between the 2 senses of the word; twice to Israel in the Koine Greek Old Testament, Acts 2 is in the sense of utter confusion, Acts 9 is in the sense of utter destruction; twice to the Body of Christ, both in I Corinthians 1:27, one of utter confusion and one of utter destruction; and once to Israel in the tribulation book of I Peter about utter confusion.
