God used this word 5 times in Scripture: once to Israel in their Masoretic Text Old Testament; once to Israel in the transition book of Acts; once to the Body of Christ in the transition book of Acts; and twice to the Body of Christ in the Gospel of Grace.
The modern definition excludes the “comparison”, and includes a sense of “To grant a title, honor, degree, benefit, or right”: Scripture never uses this sense.
