Booth – A temporary structure of any material, as boughs, canvas, or boards, used especially for shelter.
God used this word 11 times in Scripture: All to Israel in their Masoretic Text Old Testament.
Israel was instructed to observe the feast of tabernacles for seven days on the fifteenth day of this seventh month, at the time of harvest. This feast is also known as the feast of booths. It is done as a remembrance of Israel’s dwelling in the desert for 40 years.
During this feast Israel was instructed to construct and reside in booths from scavenged materials; boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook, olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches. Their booths could be constructed anywhere, and were often located on the tops of their houses.
Scripture also records booths being erected for cattle and for shade to rest under, without regard to a specification of materials.
