Anathema Maranatha

Anathema MaranathaSet aside for destruction when the Lord comes.

Anathema means “to set up or dedicate”.

Maranatha means “when the Lord comes”.

These words only occur in Scripture 1 time each, and exist as a single phrase.  Therefore, they cannot be separated.  The verse is a proverb against those that do not believe God.

The sense of the passage explains the meaning as “Set aside for destruction when the Lord comes’.

I Corinthians 16:22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.

These words are Koine Greek; they are not translated into English.

Today, the scholars still cannot agree on an exact meaning of this phrase.  Religion uses this as the basis of their false-doctrine of excommunication, and some Christian organizations ignorantly use Maranatha in the name of their group.
